Homemade Pancakes Better Than Boxed Mix
In my younger days I’d always used a box mix when I made pancakes. To be honest I really never thought about it otherwise.
Then several years ago I discovered how easy it was to whip up homemade pancakes.
I enjoy making things for myself that I used to have to buy. It’s usually healthier with more natural ingredients, better tasting and significantly cheaper too!
So homemade is the only way I make pancakes now. Thankfully it’s ridiculously easy.
What Are The Ingredients For Homemade Pancakes?
When you make pancakes from scratch, the ingredients are all familiar. No scary-sounding franken-ingredients here!
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
1 ¼ cups milk
1 large egg
3 tablespoons melted butter
See what I mean? Simple!
A Simple Homemade Pancake Recipe
Recently Rancher Man asked what I wanted for a special breakfast-in-bed occasion. Without hesitation I piped up “Homemade PANCAKES!”
Now my man is the king of the grill and he knows his way around a kitchen pretty well too. But the nervous look on his face made me smile.
“Don’t worry” I assured him “My recipe for pancakes is E-A-S-Y!”
When the pancakes were served the next morning he agreed the recipe was very straightforward. He suggested I share the recipe with y’all using the title “So Easy A Guy Can Do It” LOL.
So no offense to you kitchen-capable fellas out there, just pacifying the man in my life with the title!
How Do You Make Homemade Pancakes?
Making homemade pancakes is easy. Simply mix up the batter and drop about 1/3 cup of batter for each pancake onto a pre-heated & buttered surface.
I love to use my double-burner cast iron griddle, but you can use a cast iron skillet or even a non-stick skillet to make pancakes.
Cook each pancake until you begin to see bubbles appear on the top of the pancake batter, the edges will begin to dry slightly.
Then carefully slide a spatula beneath the pancake and flip it to the other side, cooking until golden brown.
Stack your cooked pancakes on a plate until all the pancakes are prepared.
To serve, place a couple of pancakes on a plate, top with a small pat of butter and as the butter melts along the surface of the pancake, top with syrup.
I typically make my own Maple-Flavored Syrup. It’s delicious, inexpensive and fast to make.
Make Your Own Homemade Pancake Convenience Mix
You can even pre-mix the dry ingredients in a repurposed jar. That way breakfast the next morning will a snap.
Just add a note to add the wet ingredients when getting ready to make the pancakes:
1¼ cups of milk,
1 egg,
3 tablespoons of melted butter.
You’ve just made your own inexpensive convenience mix… but BETTER!
It’s a good idea to keep a jar of this pancake mix in your pantry. And they can be ready just as fast (if not faster) than those purchased pre-made packets!
Not only will your own mix be infinitely cheaper, but it’s comprised of ingredients you recognize and can pronounce.
